Unicoi State Park – Squirrels Nest Camping

Friday March 13 – Sunday March 15

Join us in early spring for camping in the quirky Squirrels Nests of Unicoi State Park. Unicoi State Park is just North of Helen and has largely become a vacation lodge that offers much more than just camping.

We’ll be camping and sleeping in the Squirrels Nests. These are small, covered platforms built on a steep hill around a central firepit. Each platform will fit around 4 scouts. Tents are not allowed, so campers should bring a sleeping pad and plan to sleep in open air. Hammocks may or may not be allowed, depending on how many people need to fit onto each platform. There is a nearby bathroom with heat and showers. In addition to the firepit, there are also grills and picnic tables.

Saturday we will take an easy 2.5-mile hike around Unicoi Lake. Since this is the first time the crossovers camp with Troop 129, the scouts will spend time getting to know one another and teaching basic scout skills.

Parking pass required $5, or Friends of GA State Park pass.

Deadline to sign up is Monday, March 2nd. We will plan meals and activities at the regular scout meeting on March 3rd.
