Friday April 17 – Sunday April 19
Join us back in northwest Georgia for camping at Fort Mountain. A nearly 900 foot long rock wall that runs along the mountain ridge, thought to have been constructed over 1,500 years ago, inspired the name of this state park.
We’ll be camping at the group pioneer site #1. This is a large tent camping area, wooded, approximately 150 yards from parking. There is pit toilet, potable water & picnic shelter 200 yards, a few picnic tables, bear box, and a small 3-wall shelter. The wheeled patrol boxes should roll fine along a platform path to the campsite. Campers should try to backpack to the site, but duffels would also work.
Our main activity will be hiking on Saturday. We will explore the ancient rock wall, mysterious “pits”, mountain overlooks, and possibly climb the stone fire tower. We can also take a short waterfall hike and fish in the lake.
