Day Hike @ Raven Cliff Falls

Assistant Scoutmaster Mr. Jim Carey will leading a day trip/hike to the Raven Cliff Falls (near Helen, GA) on Saturday, May 20Scouts/Parents need to arrive no later than 8 am.

The Falls is one of north Georgia’s most beautiful cascades!  The trail itself ascends to the Falls alongside a mountain stream that cuts through the forest.  The hike will be a combined total of 4.9 miles there and back (a little less than 2.5 miles each way).  The rise in elevation is 700 feet from the parking area.

Hiking time plus trail rest breaks, taking photos, and eating lunch at the Falls will be approximately 3.5 – 4 hours.  We did this hike a couple of years ago and everyone really enjoyed it!

We are asking those interested to take a moment to sign-up using the link below.

Mr. Carey has put together a detailed document outlining the plans for the outing (including some opportunities for Scouts working on their Cooking merit badge). Make sure to check out the link below!

Finally, Mr. Chris May and Mr. Tom Abraham also have a side adventure planned after the hike with their Scouts.  They plan to do some backpacking in the area and then find a place to camp for the night.  There is not time to plan and make this an “official” campout for the Troop; however, Mr. May and Mr. Abraham wanted to extend an invite to other families in case there was interest.  It would be a good “intro” to backpacking (or minimalist camping).

Since there is a chance that they may not find a camping site that evening (and be forced to head home), it is important for a Scout and their parent/adult both participate.  That way, everyone has a way to get home whenever it is required.  For those interested, please speak with Mr. May.
