On Saturday, October 4, the Lake Ivanhoe Garden Club will be running Tucker’s semi-annual Plant Swap. During this event, community members are welcome to bring a plant and take a plant for their home and gardens! There will be different sections for houseplants, annuals, perennials, shrubs, seeds, garden decor/equipment, and more. There also will be Master Gardeners from the Dekalb County Extension office on site to answer any questions.
That being said, the Garden Club has requested Troop 129 Scouts to assist during the event setup and take down periods. Scouts can earn service hour credits for helping with this community event. The event organizer has also invited Troop 129 to distribute printed flyers to advertise our forthcoming annual Christmas Tree Lot.
The Lake Ivanhoe Garden Club is honored to take over this treasured event (normally hosted by the Tucker Historic Society). The event runs from 8 am – 12 pm (rain or shine).
So, how can Scouts get involved? Using the link below, you can choose to participate in up two shifts (an opening and/or a closing shift).
- The first shift is geared towards setup and runs from 7:30 – 9:30 am (2 hours).
- The second shift will be to help with closing the event down and runs from 11 am – 12:30 pm (1.5 hours).
Ideally, the Club would like at least two Scouts to help during each shift.
[Volunteer Sign-up for Plant Swap]
The Plant Swap will takeplace at the Tucker Greenspace, located at 4290 Church St, Tucker, GA 30084. Troop parents are responsible to promptly drop off and pickup of their Scouts for their shifts.
For more information about this event, please chat with Assistant Scoutmaster Jim Carey during an upcoming Troop meeting. Assistant Scoutmaster Chris May will be present during the two shifts, but we need at least one Troop parent to stay during both shifts to provide the necessary two-deep leadership. For more general questions about the event, you can contact the Garden Club’s event organizer, Ms. Sue Stein (see Troop email for her contact info).
